Characteristics of knitted fabrics in clothing design?

1. Utilize the elasticity of knitted fabrics
Knitted fabrics have good stretchability, and can minimize seams, pleats, stitching, etc. designed for styling in the template design. Secondly, knitted fabrics are generally not suitable to use the techniques of pushing and ironing, but to use the elasticity of the fabric itself or the appropriate use of folds to fit the human body curve. Then the size of the fabric elasticity becomes an important basis for the design and production of the model.
The model of woven clothing is generally larger than the area required to wrap the human body, that is, it has a certain amount of slack relative to the human body; and knitted clothing, depending on the structure of the fabric used, if the fabric with particularly high elasticity (and the use of The yarn is related to the organizational structure) when designing the template, not only does it leave no slack, but the size of the template can be the same as the circumference of the person, or it can be reduced in consideration of the elastic coefficient.

2. Utilize the curling properties of knitted fabrics
The hemming property of knitted fabrics is the phenomenon of edge fabric wrapping caused by the disappearance of stress in the edge loops of the fabric. Hemming is the downside of knitted fabrics. It can cause uneven seams of garment pieces or dimensional changes of garment edges, which ultimately affect the overall styling effect of garments and the specifications and dimensions of garments. However, not all knitted fabrics have hemming properties, but only fabrics with individual structure such as weft jersey fabrics. For this kind of fabric, it can be added to the size for hemming and rib stitching when designing the template. Or piping and inlaying adhesive strips at the edge of the garment. The curling of some knitted fabrics has been eliminated in the process of finishing the fabric, avoiding the trouble of template design.

It should be pointed out that many designers can turn the disadvantages into advantages on the basis of understanding the properties of the fabrics, and use the curling properties of the fabrics to design them on the neckline and cuffs of the model, so that the clothing has a special appearance style, which is refreshing. , especially in the weaving of shaped garments, it can also use its curling properties to form unique patterns or dividing lines.
3. Pay attention to the dispersibility of knitted fabrics
Knitted fabrics are different from woven fabrics in style and characteristics. The style of their clothing should not only emphasize the advantages of the fabrics, but also overcome its shortcomings. Because individual knitted fabrics are detachable, it should be noted that some knitted fabrics should not use too much exaggeration during the design and production of the sample, and try not to design darts, cutting lines, and splicing seams should not be too much to prevent knitting loops. The detachment of the clothing will affect the wearability of the clothing. Simple and soft lines should be used in harmony with the soft and fit style of the knitwear.
